A section of the Carlingford Lough Greenway has been temporarily closed after recent storms caused coastal erosion along the route.

As reported by Margaret Roddy in the Irish Independent, Louth County Council confirmed that damage to the shoreline has undermined parts of the greenway, leading to the closure on safety grounds. Inspections are ongoing to assess the extent of the erosion and to determine what remedial works will be required before the route can safely reopen.

The greenway is a hugely popular amenity for walkers and cyclists, attracting both locals and visitors throughout the year. The closure highlights the growing impact of severe weather on coastal infrastructure and the challenges faced in protecting exposed sections of shared paths.

Updates will be issued as further assessments are completed.
