A section of the Suir Blueway near Carrick-on-Suir has temporarily closed to allow widening and resurfacing works to take place.

Tipperary County Council has confirmed that the affected section runs between Ballynoran Stud Farm, approximately 5km outside Carrick-on-Suir, and MSD, approximately 7km outside the town.

The closure came into effect on Monday, 7 September 2026, with works expected to continue for approximately 10 weeks.

Open at weekends

The good news for walkers and cyclists planning a weekend visit is that the affected section will reopen each weekend.

According to Tipperary County Council, the path will open on Friday evenings before closing again early on Monday mornings while the improvement works continue.

The works will involve widening and resurfacing the existing path, improving this section of the route for users once completed.

Planning a visit?

Anyone planning to use the Suir Blueway during the coming weeks should be aware of the weekday closure and plan their journey accordingly.

Weekend users should still be able to travel through the affected section, although visitors should remain aware of the ongoing works and follow any signage or instructions in place along the route.

The Suir Blueway follows the River Suir through County Tipperary and is a popular recreational route for walkers, cyclists and those exploring the area.

Greenways Ireland will share further updates on the works as information becomes available.
