Greenway for East Mayo – Have your say

Kilkenny County Council is  invitating  members of the public to participate in the selection of a preferred route corridor for the essential South to North Access Roa of the South East Greenway

In their ongoing effort to improve connectivity and accessibility, the council has developed six distinct route corridor options, all aimed at seamlessly connecting Abbey Road to Belmont Road. The selcted route will be important to the South East Greenway as it will most likely form a future access point and car park for the greenway

The Great Western Greenway has been a huge success for Mayo. It’s success has been part of the reason the country has gone greenway crazy over the last few years.

East Mayo Greenway Group believe that they should benefit from their own greenway and are actively campaigning to bring one to the area.

A big part of their campaign to to get as many people as possible to submit their views on the subject to the Mayo County Development Plan which is currently open for submissions until the 16th of March. You can make a submission here https://consult.mayo.ie/en/consultation/draft-mayo-county-development-plan-2021-2027

The East Mayo Greenway Group are actively campaigning for a greenway to be built from the Galway/Mayo border at Milltown through to the Sligo/Mayo border on the railway line close for  40 years.

The group is aligned with the Quiet Man Greenway in Galway and Sligo Greenway co-op in Sligo with the overall objective of creating a long distance greenway called Western Rail Trail Greenway from Sligo to Athenry.
